After researching about Duke University and after high school alternative options I've learned a lot about my opportunities after high school. I've learned a lot about the option to take a gap year between high school and university to get hands on experience in my field of interest before going to school for 8 years to train to work in my field. It's not only a way to get a taste of the work I want to do, but it's also a way to ensure that I'm going into the right subject area. Duke University is somewhere I would love to go. While one day I think I'd love to be a surgeon, I also have a passion for global health and working to improve the health of people internationally. If I were to become a surgeon I'd like to be a part of groups like Doctors Without Borders, providing health care and treatment in places there really aren't any medical professionals. If I were to take global health as a double major with biology at Duke University, not only would I be set up with all the needed courses taken to do a medical degree, I'd have the opportunity as a part of the global health program to travel the world working to improve health standards. The reason I'd like to do either a minor or a certificate in a field of business is because I understand that a lot of jobs now a days involve a business aspect and that businesses are a huge part of how everything works, so I think it is important to understand subjects like economics or accounting to fully understand situations in the world.
